The trek to Gokyo Everest base camp in the Khumbu region is one of the busiest in Nepal. Not only are there superb views of Everest, the highest mountain in the world but also other magnificent summits such as Ama Dablan and Pumori. The route passes through many friendly villages. The inhabitants are the ethnic Sherpa known worldwide for their unique role in Everest expeditions. They are known for their hospitality and kindness and are excellent mountaineers.


 

Gokyo Ri via Everest Base Camp Itinerary

As soon as you land at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu, our staff and representative will pick you up and transfer to your hotel. You can spend the day in briefing about the trip and enjoy the evening in Kathmandu. Stay overnight at a  hotel.

Today we will catch an early morning flight to Lukla. It will be an exciting ride to the Tenzing-Hillary Airport, with an airstrip that is at the side of a mountain. At Lukla, we will meet our staff and guide, before heading off to Phakding. The trek to Phakding is a joyous trek with beautiful sceneries around. Stay overnight in Phakding.

At first our trail is along the Dudh Koshi River. We will trek across a few suspension bridges and some villages with chortens. Along the way we will have very good views of Mt. Thamsherku before arriving at Monjo, the official entry into Sagarmatha National Park. From here the trek trails descends to Jorsalle followed by a walk up to Namche Bazaar. As we arrive near Namche, we will have majestic views of the Kusum-Kangru, Kwangde, Everest, Lhotse, and other peaks. At Namche Bazaar, check into a hotel or a lodge. This prosperous town is one of the highlights of Khumbu Region, where you will enjoy the night.

A day of acclimatization is necessary at Namche so that we can adapt to the environment and the altitude. However, it is not about sleeping in Namche - in fact, you need to take short hikes up and down so that you can better acclimatize to the environment. We can trek to a couple of nearby villages, or visit the Visitors’ Center. Later in the afternoon, climb up to a lofty area where you can spend the time relaxing with a drink and gazing at the highest mountains on Earth. Later, return to Namche for the overnight stay.

Acclimadation 

In the morning, we leave Namche Bazaar on a trail that is gradually ascending and descending. Along the route we might see some pheasants, the musk deer, and the Himalayan thar. However, the chances are declining day by day due to encroachment and probably due to rising average temperatures. We will descend to Kyanjuma and have scenic views of several peaks such as Ama Dablam, Thamsherku, Khumbila, and other peaks. Later in the day we will come to Phortse Thanga where we’ll stay overnight.

Trekking through Dudh Koshi River, we will pass through alpine forests with a slight chance of seeing the wildlife native to this region. The winding trail through the woods and streams before arriving at Dole. Along the way we will have picturesque views of Cho Oyu, Thamsherku, and other peaks before arriving at Macherma. We will check into a lodge and sleep here tonight.

We begin the day with an ascent with views of Dudh-Koshi Valley below. Above, we will be looking head to head with Cho Oyu and Thamsherku. Crossing through the valley, we will come to a chorten near Phanga and head to a terminal moraine of the Ngozumpa Glacier. With some breaks in between, we will trek along the ascending trail until we arrive at Gokyo - the Khumbu Valley of Lakes. Enjoying the scenic landscape, we will sleep overnight here in Gokyo.

Today we will spend around Gokyo, climbing the peak of Gokyo-Ri. From the top, we will have unforgettably beautiful views of several lakes of Gokyo at the foot of majestic mountains. Today is the trek to see some of the most beautiful lakes and gain an experience unlike any other in Nepal. The views of Ngozumpa Glacier and Himalayan peaks surrounding it, are indeed impressive. Later in the day we will return to Gokyo, pack the bags and leave for Dragnag where we’ll stay overnight

On this day we will be crossing the popular high-altitude mountain pass of Cho-La. Our trek to the pass today lies in the busy section of a trail that traverses three high passes of Khumbu. The trail is challenging, but completely rewarding. Trek carefully but don’t forget to look above for wonderful views of the peaks. Crossing Cho-La Pass, we will trek down to Dzongla for the night.

We start after breakfast and first travel through a glacier. The scenic views are enough to make you forget the challenging terrain. The views of Kalapatthar and Pumori peaks will be with us for some section of the trail before we take a break. From there, we will trek more glacial trails to arrive at Gorakshep. Here at Gorakshep, we will stay tonight.

Get up before dawn and begin the slow ascend through a high-altitude trail. Around two hours of walk will bring you to Kalapatthar, a great viewpoint. Ready your camera kit and wait until sunrise. As soon as the first lights hit the peaks, you will see that the effort was totally worth it. The memorable views of Everest and other peaks are simply stunning. After enjoying the view, we will come down the easy trail to Gorakshep and later in the morning, we will head towards the beautiful village of Dingboche. We will head straight in the direction of Ama Dablam, which will bring us to Dingboche - our destination for tonight.
7 hours walk, Night at Lodge.

It’s a long day of trek today with a number of ascents and descents at lower altitudes of Khumbu. First we will come to the village of Pangboche, then descend to the woods that go up to Dole. Here, take a break and cross a river and again ascend through a forest up to Tengpoche. Enjoy the time in this village before descending to Dudh-Koshi Valley and then heading up the steep trail to Kenjoma. You’ll sleep tonight in this quiet village.

6 hours walk, Night at Lodge.

In the morning we will begin the descent from Kyangjuma. First we will trek through scattered hamlets with a never-ending view of the glorious Thamsherku peak. At 6,608 meters, this peak is beautiful beyond description, and actually searching for words to describe it, we will come to Dudh-Koshi River. Here, we will take a little break and ascend along the trail to arrive at Monjo for the night.

Today we will trek from Monjo to Lukla. It’s a walk through alpine forests of magnolia and rhododendron, the national flower of Nepal. Walking along Dudh-Koshi River, we will cross several mani walls, prayer wheels, chortens, and monasteries. Enjoying the view of Kusum-Kangru peak, later in the afternoon, we will arrive at Lukla where we’ll stay tonight.
4 hours walk, Night at Lodge.

Early in the morning we will take a flight back to Kathmandu. In the capital, you can spend the day in a sauna, or do shopping, visit one of the bars or simply visit around town. Stay in a hotel tonight.
45 min of flight, Night at Hotel.

For a free day in Kathmandu, we recommend going on a sightseeing tour of Kathmandu. Starting after breakfast, you will go to a few of the World Heritage Sites - Pashupatinath, Swayambhunath, Bhaktapur Durbar Square, and Bauddhanath. You will have lunch probably at a rooftop restaurant in Bhaktapur Durbar Square - overlooking old temples and the busy square below. Later, return to hotel and spend the rest of the day shopping or as you 

As the program comes to a close, we will take you to the airport according to your flight plan.
