Lobuche Peak Climbing

Trip Facts

Lobuche is located in the Kumbu region, near to Everest and Lhotse. It is much less popular than the Mera or Island Peak but its summit which culminates at 6120m offers one of the most beautiful views over the mythical peaks of the Himalayas: Everest, Lhotse, Pumori, Ama Dablam and Makalu.

Acclimatization to altitude is done gradually via the ascent of Gokyo Peak (5330m). Climbing Lobuche requires a night in an altitude camp around 5100m. It is more technical than Mera or Island Peaks. Only people with an excellent physical condition should consider doing this peak as it involves walking on rough terrain and sometimes off the trail. Therefore a basic knowledge of high mountain techniques e.g. walking with crampons on slopes of 45° is preferable.
